Welcome to Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Hyannis is a village in the city of Barnstable, Massachusetts, a town of southeast Massachusetts on Nantucket Sound in south-central Cape Cod. It is a popular summer resort. Population: 9,900.
It is a residential area, and it also contains the town's central business/commercial district, which includes town offices and several shopping malls.
Hyannisport is an affluent residential and fishing village. Hyannis Harbor provides access to the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. It is also the location of the Kennedy family residence.

It is the business center and shipping point of the area; major industries are tourism and home construction. There are large retail malls and light industry. Hyannis provides ferry transportation to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket island. A conservatory of music and arts is located there. Nearby Hyannisport is famous as the site of a compound of houses owned by the Kennedy family.
Hyannis is the "big city" in the Cape. Possibly best known by tourists because of the Kennedy family's ties here, Hyannis definitely offers a lot to do. It is actually one of seven villages that comprise the town of Barnstable.
While this is the area of the Cape where you are most likely to find major chain retailers and restaurants, it still has its share of local homegrown merchants. Here you can visit fantastic beaches on Nantucket Sound and also access some of the Cape's best music, art and theatre. Some of the Kennedy-related points of interest are the JFK Hyannis Museum and the JFK Memorial.
There are many cruises and ferries by which you can tour the area by boat or travel to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. First seen by the man who named the Cape, Bartholomew Gosnold, in 1602, by 1636 Barnstable was incorporated.

The concept may be the law of the land today for most, but not for those who are unrepresented, such as convicts, immigrants, and Hyannis village residents who cannot vote, but yet are still subject to water rates, impaired water quality, and service charges.
